Our friends in the railroad hobbies know of our “nomadic adventures” of traveling for railroad related pursuits. We also provide support duties for our son’s family’s pursuit of the “Rodeo Lifestyle” Great 3 season lifestyle of being with a strong family environment and raising young people in a very strong, wholesome, Christian, healthy, outdoor life.
It’s great fun!
This morning, we are in Monticello, Illinois. Within a mile of the Monticello Railway Museum.
I was here at the end of April with my “Operations” friend, Mark Godwin, as we chased the history of the Illinois Terminal Railroad, through the annual meeting of the Illinois Traction Society.

Today, the sun is shining and a beautiful breeze is drying the ground. Yesterday, not the same. It rained from 6am to Noon. And the Rodeo went on. Mud, slop and rain. The “Bull Riding”, “Goat Tying” and every event was entertaining, but challenging and extremely muddy. One of the professional cowboys said, “You do the events and survive. Don’t try for your fastest time, just get through it safely, without getting hurt or injuring your horse”.
Goal today is to get our rig out of here, safely. That won’t happen, until this evening. But Man, I hope this sun and wind work in our favor.
Oh yeah, yesterday, while sitting in the rain, fog and mist, it was great to hear the moan of a whistle or horn as the museum equipment was running just a mile away. Sounds of a different era and time. But the western atmosphere here, fit right in.
