Building and Bashing Amtrak Equipment

The Front

The rear

Job well done.

Roosty,
That is some beautiful work. I overlooked this thread as Amtrak is a bit out of my era but I’m glad I took a look. Now don’t lat it go to your head but very, very nice!

Just playing with my store bought stuff Richard.

BTW…where’s that peach pie you owe me?

I put a piece in an envelope and mailed it to you. Didn’t you get it? :o

Not bad, Rooster, for a dismal.

What! Only four pictures of it on the layout. Come on Rooster you know I cant read I need p[ictures.

yard cart!

Better Rooster but I didnt see Shawnet. Dont worry about the cart. Its a requirment that you must have somthing out of place when posting pictures.
They look sharp on your layout.

I like the cliff dwellers you have. (bird house on fence)

i am still trying to get my hands on a phase 3 set without getting taken to cleaners. some of the local dealers still have stock they bought new and are trying to recoup the shelf “aging” like a bottle of wine.

John,
from what I have seen on fleebay, locomotives are around $550 and coaches around $375 each. 18 months ago they were almost giving them away.

For you folks in NY, I suspect this will be a good deal for someone, since he did “local pickup only” with no reserve

Wow, that train has some speed … look at the blur :open_mouth:

Better?

WOW! A long articulated car! I see one stretched truck in the center of that shot…Cool! you did not share ANY of the build details on that!

Chas

OK…Diggin this thread back up because I wanted a cab control car like they run on the NE Corridor. Cutting up one of these cars was not an option as they are a bit to pricey to cut up so I came up with another solution. Make a removable faceplate!

The prototype^^^^…Yes I know only a face Rooster could love !

Now for the model …the LGB Amfleet cars are very well built and designed(IMO) with exception of the sliding doors that open and really are not necessary. The detail on the ends of the cars are easily removable as they are pinned in place. So I just made a whipped up face plate that pops in the holes after removing the end detail pieces. In turn I get the cab control car that I needed without destroying a NOW expensive car.

Material of choice was scraps of TUF Board @ left over for the viaduct build I did a few years back. Pictures say 1,000 words so I will just post them.

It ain’t perfect but I’m cool with it just need to add a few more details and call it done for now cause like a good homemade soup, you can always add to it carefully and make it better as it simmers …besides I’m moving away from the 5’ rule and going with the 10’ rule these days cause I’m getting old!

Nice mod Rooster. You’re getting quite the Amtrak fleet.

It looked great at York… and he wasn’t even finished with it yet…
