Large Scale Central

Bluestone Southern October, 2018 OPs

Awesome time as always! Thanks again to Andy and Jane.

I have two videos in the works. I hope to have the videos done late tonight.

I’m curious as to why Dad didn’t model the wye and crossing at Woodlawn? Might have well just modeled the town of “Roaches” instead! If you wanna play EVWR correctly you need to model Mt Vernon and Howell yard as well. Unless you are pretending Howell Yard is in the basement and I missed that part? But what happened to Mt. Vernon and the crossing with the wye at Woodlawn?

Hope the new units worked well dad and really hoping to see pics of them or perhaps Cousin Matt got video of them running so I can critique . I got my eye on you and your BS you old prick!

Son, Woodlawn is modeled as to the actual Railroad… It has the Diamond crossing and the 2 interchange trains, both north and south along with the siding at Woodlawn…

The Howell yard is Evansville, Indiana…

New units need work before they run… Install the ditchlights and align the couplers. so they didn’t run outside this session, but we did test them inside where Matt couldn’t see them…

And, NO, I ain’t sending you 20 bucks… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I will “Ditto” what Matt said…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

And ignore what Rooster said.

Thanks Andy. Thanks Jane.

Wow! What a great session!

When we pulled up to the Clarkes place, it just looked better than we remembered. The plants have really done well over the years.

It’s something, just to walk around the layout and try to take everything in…

And, in the basement, there’s changes afoot as well…

This is the site of a future mountain. I suspect it will be less blocky looking once carved. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

However, all is NOT well. My sign has NOT fared well on my factory. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)(I should have had Stan make a decal!)

New buildings are constantly being added, but I was surprised to see one show up as I was touring the layout…

A distant shot of Freeman Spur…

And, a bit to the left of that, the white stakes mark the site of a future pond.

Before we can operate, the cars need to be set out. I decide to set out the cars for Freeman Spur, as I didn’t get a chance to work that yet.

The train leaves the basement…

Then it crosses the “Y” bridge on the way to the Sparta subdivision…

Once we clear Sparta, it’s down the grade for a bit…

We eventually get to Freeman Spur, where Jean is ready to set out the cars. The train has pulled in on the center track.

A placard tells us where the cars should go. Of course, in setup, it’s pretty easy because there is NOTHING there now.

Once the cars are in place, we head back to the basement…

Now, after the cars are in place, it’s time to run the Freeman Spur local…

We start from the basement…

We have the train information on our clipboard.

Heading down the grade after Sparta…

It’s a pretty long train…

We eventually make it down to the bridge.

And head towards Freeman Spur.

There’s yet another bridge before we get to Freeman Spur.

We pull into the left track this time…

Then, it’s time to think about how in the heck we’re going to even do this. I’m so busy working this, that I completely forget to take more pictures. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)But, that’s the whole idea - just have fun operating! And it WAS VERY FUN!

Sunday is a “bit” warmer than Saturday, but rain continues to threaten.

I haven’t worked Overlook for awhile, so decide to do that today.

The train leaves the basement…this time headed on the “left” track

I have the “orders” on the clipboard.

The train makes progress to Overlook.

Crossing the bridge, just before Overlook

Andy joins us after I mistakenly press the wrong button on the Revolution - and lose the link to my locomotive.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

But, the problem is solved and Ken and I can continue to work Overlook.

We start by delivering the two Coca-Cola cars to the plant.

We stick the two cars we picked up on a spur and continue switching.

Finally, we get around to dealing with the tank cars.

Once complete, we put the caboose on the other end of the train and head back to the basement.

It’s all over way too fast - I’m on my way to visit my brother in Arkansas and it’s past the time I had planned to leave!

A GREAT weekend! Much thanks to Andy and Jane for hosting this wonderful event. Lots of fun, and lots of socializing.

Bruce, some fantastic pictures… Thanks for posting them…

We were happy to have all the folks who were here for the weekend…

Wow, railway looks fantastic!

Thanks for the pictures Bruce!

Somehow after dealing with weeding my small outdoor layout I couldn’t even imagine having to do maintenance on a layout that size, especially this year as the weeds were relentless!

Not just maintenance, but continual building…

In 2014, Overlook had this appearance

Jane had to show us where the ground was still wet…

It’s a great visit and well worth the drive!

I happened to have my little GPS with me - Garmin something or other that tracks how far you walk…

2.66 miles in 4 hours 49 minutes. Not fast, but does give you an idea…of something.

Did you track dads golf cart ?

Them white stakes are not marking a “Pond” …that’s a lake !

Great photo spread!

It’s an awful shame for me to have missed all this - and I’m still dealing with contractors and the usual foul-ups up here, running about a month late. A trip to Andy and Jane’s is still very much on my bucket list. Way to go, Clarkes, for all the effort you two have put in. Thanks Bruce for the pics. Cheers, all!

Awesome pictures!

I can’t believe I missed Andy in the layout! No golf cart, no(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif) tractor, and he’s not inside!

Matt, it really wasn’t me out there, it was a picture on a stick… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Below are a few more shots :

Bruce and Ken contemplating switching moves at Overlook.

Bruce and ken with a train on the Sparta Sub heading into Sparta then Bluefield.

Jim and Sue running the coal train as It enters the Memphis Subdivision heading for the power plant south of Memphis.

Coal train on the Power Plant loop.

Crew working Overlook…

Below are some Shots of the Switchback… We were only able to build 3 portions of the switchback by the Oct Ops…

Shot is of the train on the 3rd section.

Shot is of train at the end of the second section…

Lower section can be seen and the logging yard with the shiny track between Pete and the golf cart.

MCL-2 arriving at Okawville to work the elevator.

I just can not figure out how just you and Jane accomplished ALL this by yourselves. It’s mind boggling! (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
