Large Scale Central

Your first outdoor layout pics.

Sean, great thread.

My layout began with basic ground clearing in 2008, then tree felling in 2009, followed by several years of grading, deck building, rock wall building, and roadbed laying. This is a shot from 2009, looking north.

Roadbed mainly happened in 2012.

It was eventually completed, along with the track and a lot of other stuff. Here’s a shot from 2016, taken by my good friend Jerry B. (and his DJI Phantom). That’s him in the middle.

Same year, from the ground, looking south during a neighborhood train meet.

I’m afraid I haven’t progressed a lot beyond this. But it’s good to recall where it all started. Thanks Sean and everyone for posting your pics.

Jon, that’s truly amazing, bridging from the dryer to the desk. Pretty impressive, all things considered.

Benny Dict, I move we institute some sort of Benevolent Mention, and bestow it upon the Daktah at the next D&B.

I think a nice “BM” award for… what… “Over the Dryer”? “Laundry or Bust”? “Rails over My Hammie”? “Heroic Trestle Intersects Living Space”? (your call, BD) seems to be in order. I mean, this is truly amazing. I’m NOT kidding.*

More seriously… wow Jon, that’s massively inventive. You’re a hard core railroader for sure, making the RR happen whatever the challenge. Kudos to you!!

*Sometimes. Rooster, please chime in…

Thanks, but I cant take credit. I had built an indoor folded dog bone on plywood mostly supported by stored furniture. My son noticed the window and sink cabinet were at the same level and offered a way for trains to escape the basement. This was later named by him using a word from Finding Nemo; Es-cap-e` Bridge (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

The ham radio desk is one of several pieces of furniture that still reside under the current indoor division. The bridge shown was temporary and later replaced with a bi-fold bridge of heavier design. The bridge does not land on the drier, but rather the cabinet that is missing a drawer in this pic. Window is to the left, just out of view.

This is how the second Layout looks now.

Then we started with the 3rd layout …

At one time I had an nice little outdoor layout. But moving and divorcing puts that on stand still. Wish I had pictures of it. So instead I’m settling down again and FINALLY after 15 yrs starting another one.! Nothing to exciting yet.

Keep us posted with progress!

Don’t see a layout Sean …only the vault to the right of the pic?..Nice Japanese Maple though

I started my garden railway in 1992. Here’s some pics of those early days. Well now, I’ve lost my way. How do we post pictures nowadays ?

Upload to your Freight Shed, paste the location of an open pic to the post.

If it lives elsewhere online, you can use that location. Open the pic and save the pic’s location with a right click…

If Greg were here, he’d suggest the sticky, I think it’s in the site forum…

Thanks John. Let’s try this again.

I got one picture to work but cannot get the other four on here.

Does this help …

From small beginnings

http://www.largescalecentral.com/FileSharing/user_5626/Max’s%20pictures/Just%20a%20bit%20of%20gravel.JPG

Add some track, a track bed and a bit of stock

Add 10 years and the line has developed a bit and those trees have grown

Especially that little green tree in the foreground of the 3rd picture. It’s 18 ft now. We got some tall timber on this line.

Nice layout!

The little tree that did!

I think it’s the spaces in the name of your first pic that mucked it up. %20 is geek for a space. Try eliminating them in the title and it should play nice.

The Cliff, you overlooked the forethought he had by not buying a top loadmachine there(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
