Large Scale Central

Modern Ballast Hopper

Thanks Ric. That was taken with a poor man’s drone also known as a second storey window. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Shane

this looks great!

Layout looks to have a wonderful start… Can’t wait to see the build as it goes along… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Thanks Guys,

I suffered some rain delay, but today I got back to work. I had to trim my spruce and apple trees to give me room to work. I got that delivered to the enviro center, and managed to get the next section complete. Two more nice days and I should have the base in. Then I need to get it all leveled. The garbage truck took my sod yesterday, so I kept the bin under 200LBS. I received my bridge a few days ago ( no Rooster I didn’t build it ), and silly FedEx stepped on it right in the center and destroyed it. More to deal with…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)

Shane

Shane, If you do not trust Fed Wrex to deliver you an intact bridge, here is the bridge I built, not really a copy of any one , just a bunch of pictures I looked at and went from there and Diesel Dudes build of a similar one.

I used window screen frame aluminum from the Lowes near me, cuts easy and its light weight, but strong.

Pete, I’ve considered building my own, but I have very little experience working with metals. When I built the SD60f side ladders out of brass, it took me an entire evening, and luckily the black paint hides what an ugly job I did. More rain delays. All the sod is out. Now I just need it to dry up.

Shane

We know that you like glue and some form of plastic …

If I could build it you can …

I made mine out of Azek (plastic).

Shane, Its a tubular piece of aluminum, the gussets are from a small sheet of aluminum , both from my Lowes. All you need is a hacksaw and a tape measure, a file, drill and bits, maybe some metal cutters to make the gusset plates and about 450 machine screws . If someone can build a locomotive from scratch, I would bet that you can tackle a small bridge with ease, Hell I built that bridge and I am NOT anywhere near skilled as you are!

Thanks for all of the bridge information guys. Bridges aren’t a big concern until I start on the second level, so I’ll have lots of time to study all the information you’ve shared.

The rain is still working against me. I can’t remember the last time we had a summer like this. When it’s not raining, it’s so muggy that I am soaked right through after an hour of work. I have the last little piece framed. I just need it to dry out so that I can pack it down and fill it with limestone. The rain has helped with the rest. I have all of the edges finished, and have now leveled and packed it three times. If weather allows tomorrow, I think I’ll start to lay the track. The rain really helps with setting the limestone base. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Yea, this is the wettest damn planet I have ever seen.

I always suspected Maynard was from another planet!

Shhh, I am in hiding.

Nice run… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Work900 is still hard at work. The three track yard is in, and a two track shop track. The outer main is waiting for a bridge. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)The outer main is available via the cross overs at each end of the yard. It’s just the yard portion that is incomplete.

There is an illusion on the inner main curve that appears to show terribly angled track in the curve. It’s flat, honest. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)The video proves it.

Hmmmmmmmmm, I wonder if there is a new movie in the works. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
