Mik2018 Recycled or pilfered

John, wishing you nothing but the best and hope you get good news soon. I can’t start to imagine what you are going through since I haven’t walked in your shoes but you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Sorry, you can’t leave, we’re not through with you yet! (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Yea, what they all said.

Hey John - Yeah, that really sucks. Wishing you all the best. As far as the Challenge goes - The painted 2x4 wall might take a ‘most original idea’ category!

forgeddit!

on this forum only about the half is railroad or modeling talk. about a quarter is bullsh…, about an eighth is complete offtopic and only the small rest are personal stuff.

i think the forums and the users can stand that.

(specially, cause our common interests seem to bring us closer, than with many persons we meet in “real life”)

about culling… as a former rancher, let me asure you, that the fat ones get sent away first.

That’s why my doc always said obesity was going to get me killed. Had nothing to do with heart failure after all

Ya know what, I think you have a documentable point there.

Today’s workshop, 9 am 70 degrees and sunny, got an early start, stopped to get camera …

Yesterday afternoon I cut the parts needed …

Today I’m pinning them without glue because the bridge will be in a captive spot between 2 hills… and it’s a lot faster!

I used my band saw to trim the ones I left long on top…

As a scrounger … I save marginal wood …

Covered with bridge ties no one will kn would have known without my big mouth …

Time to run errands, I’ll be cutting bridge ties and laying rail across … mebbe.

John, I have been anxiously waiting to see this bridge start to come together and you have delivered. I wouldn’t define the wood as marginal, let’s say wood with character. Gives the bridge that been here for a hundred years look. Great job so far.

Looking good John. Glad you were able to get outside and play (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Silly old man… can’t use those stringers after all.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

It’s ok, I stuck a pair of arches in place and discovered the gap was less. In my mind’s eye there are vertical bents at the ends and a shorty up on the shelf on the right. I’ll throw dirt around so you can see better when it’s ready.

Filling the gap looks good John(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

If 1 is good then 2 is way better!

It’s a tad chopped to fit, even needed to notch the lower horizontal …

I have ideas! Oh for the stringer …

I think you should build a crate. . . i like how you talk about using old wood like its a bad thing when everyone else here is trying unsuccessfully to make their new wood look as good as your old wood. Mother nature sure does a better weathering job than me.

You want a crate too?

John, I was really echoing Devon’s comment concerning your use of old wood and how the rest of us were trying to catch up to you by weathering new wood. But hey, I’m OK with a crate, too (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
