The https: does do something for you, it will encrypt your password when you log in. It will stop other things.
If you bypassed the test for the certificate, now that it is back, I suggest you cancel that exception.

edit: to be clear, I see both titles “Ads by Google” but there’s nothing but blank space underneath. And, oddly, I DO see the ads at the top of the pages for like Train Engineer and all.

Its possible that something installed in the browser is blocking google ads. For example, I run AdBlock Pro in my browser, and unless I whitelist a site, I wont see the ads, just a blank space.
Showing the ads really doesnt provide much in the way of income (fractions of a cent per). Its when you find something of interest and go to a site from one of the ads and poke around.
And I do from time time to time Bob. Just so you get a few more cents in the coffers.

I wouldn’t worry too much about this site, cert or not, unless your password is the same as the one for your bank account. ha. (Don’t do that!) Bob runs a pretty tight ship.
If you need some REAL cyber paranoia, check this out-
It is not Bob running a tight ship about the password… it’s sending your password in the clear over the Internet if you logged in under http: as opposed to https: … I’m surprised you made this misunderstanding… it could be intercepted BEFORE it ever got to Bob…
I won’t even go there about using the same passwords…

With ad blocking having been mentioned here, I will say that I know ads bring revenue, that, yes, I block those ads without having contributed any revenue to this site myself, and that for health reasons involving autism and a few other things, I have to, yes, have to, run ad blockers, script blockers, and especially GIF blockers, or the web would be unusable to me.
TV and movies are unusable to me and I have no TV set in my home; fortunately there is calmer, less intense, and shorter, material on YouTube for if I want to watch someone doing something.
For example, I couldn’t watch an NFL game on TV but could watch a UK canal boat video on YouTube. Unless the narrator talks too fast or the music is too fast and too full of too many sounds.
Related is that I do not use and in some cases have removed the sound system in my several Bachmann 4-6-0 Big Hauler or Annie locos.
There was one where I covered the tender floor speaker grille with cardstock to see what that did.
Though this seems rather tangential, it will shed some light on those other health reasons I mentioned at beginning of this post,

In 1986 or so Dad was one of US Navy’s first, no, actually I think he was the literal first, medical retirement with CFS/ME and fibromyalgia, plus neuropathy and a couple other things, after several years of high powered military doctors in Virginia trying to figure out what was happening to this guy.

There is no misunderstanding. My point is, if you care about the password you are sending to this site that much, I would advise you to review your password habits. Cert or not.

Me too. When I have a couple of minutes to spare and it looks like it might be something interesting, I’ll click around a little. That’s why I was wondering why I get blank spaces now under Ads by Google.
