Trackwork on the NVRY

Nice work, Bob… Be nice to run on next month… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Fill Roosters keg with root beer…

Good looking progress Bob. I think the water seal can make a huge difference in the longevity of those deck boards. Should last a long time.

I have a question about your methodology. In the last shot I see where the track the track departs from the wood deck back to the ground. It seems you could have just built up a bit of earth instead of building the deck or transversely the deck could keep going eliminating the build up that the track runs off too. Are you getting everything up on a deck? If not, what determines the points of switchover in road bed?

I’ll backfill around the spline. I’ve had bad luck here laying track on the ground, even in ballast-filled trenches, etc. So I go for a solid roadbed. I build mini-decks wherever I have a town with a lot of switching, and use PVC spline for the mainline.

Some more trackwork yesterday. Everything is done except the tracks to the car float, and switch throws.

Looks like OPs will proceed without the ‘caution roadwork ahead’ signs after all (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Nice work… A little over 2 weeks and it’ll be tested… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Looks great! Can’t wait. Ready to head north and east, partner and wife have other plans. Oh well, next Monday is soon enough.

Looks good Bob, wish I lived closer, it would be fun to come to an OP session and meet everyone. BTW those switches look like Sunset Valley products, are they?

Yep, those are Sunset Valley #6 NG switches

Those look good. I have a few Sunset Valley switches, but they are SG. I’ve always been impressed with how well they function.

What are you going to use for switch stands?

Check the Chat, Bruce…

I have a half-dozen of the new Bachmann switch throws that Im trying out. With a bit of twiddling they seem to work pretty well on these switches.

I’ll be interested in them - especially how they hold up outside.

Figured out a better mounting for the Bachmann switch throws.

And it is a major visual improvement. Funny how many things look better after you saw parts off.

Bob how or what did you do to get that setup?

The switch throws are made to mount INTO a hollow plastic switch. Since these switches use solid ties, I had to figure something else out. A bit of Zona saw work on one side of the switchstand ‘legs’ got me a good fit, and a bit of drilling got me reasonable mounting holes. I used the longest throw arm, and had to file the hole in the switch bar about 1/32, but it mounts up nice, throws easily, yet firmly.

Here it is from the other direction.

Pics answers lots of question 90o% of the time.

Bob,

looks much better that way, as well as providing better equipment clearance.

Since I’m rebuilding some more trackwork from Williamsport, past Pearce, and down to Majestic, I figured Id re-purpose this thread into a rebuild thread.

Here’s a couple switches I just got from Robby. A #8 (probably for the siding at Pearce) and a #4 for a spur near Majestic
