Rebuilding the old mill

That was a good save. I think it looks better with the stone base. Nicely done.

Thanks guys. I wanted a stone base on it originally, but I made it out of carved Hardiboad, due to a recommendation from a friend. I certainly hope this stone base survives it first spring. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

That space looked so lonely without the mill there, that I will have to make sure the mill stays. So, maybe, I should check it over, and repair it, more then once every 11 years. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

David, the stone base really made a difference. Way to go!

Looks great!

Way to get the job done David. Looks like it should pass the AIB (American Institute of Baking) audit with flying colors now. Those bugs would have failed them for sure. The building just looks more appropriate sitting on the stone. The awnings really add a lot to the building too, and I love the vintage vehicles you chose for the parking lot. Especially the AMC Hornet!

Randy,

Look closely. No AMC Hornet. It’s a FORD Pinto hatchback. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Thanks Joe, I thought it didn’t look quite right, (at least for a Hornet) but that does make me a little less excited. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

I was going to put the AMC Gremlin out there too, but it looks a bit large to me, even though it’s marked 1:24th scale.

I have enough of the die cast cars that most people have, the 57 chevy, the mustang, camero and such. So now when I buy die cast cars, I buy the run of the mill, everyday transportation type cars.

David,

Your repaired mill looks great, and the setting is superb. Nice job! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Thanks Joe. Now I just need to build a few more buildings.

i think, this way it looks a lot better, as if you had built a new one and weathered it.

Thanks Korm, and yea, its weathered. Some of that is the way I stained the wood when it was new, but most is real weathering.

Now if only I could get the darn thing to light up. It seams the landscape lighting transformer’s timer isn’t doing its job. But, maybe, that has something to do with the fact that someone keep knocking out the plug. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

Edit for fat finger syndrome.

Your revitalized mill is an inspiration for me to get off the sofa this winter.

I notice there’s no rail spur going to the old mill…ever thought of burying some track under the gravel parking lot and leaving it partially exposed to suggest a hint of a past railroad connection…

David, that’s an idea. The original plan (laugh when you say that) was to put a loading dock on the west side of the mill, where the mainline runs past it. But I never did get around to building the loading dock.
