Calling All Chessie Fans

What paints do people use to paint their locomotives?

What colors look the best/most accurate for Chessie System locos?

Gee, other than thinking the kitten was ‘cute’, I can’t really say I’m a Chessie fan.

Not sure I should answer your ‘calling’. Yet confident this could be a learning experience.

Don’t make headers limiting. I would suggest your primary need was; Painting, who uses what and why?

A sub heading then could go to the Chessie.

Under paints first is kind: Rattle cans, air brushes or brushed on… artist paints or …

Then brands;

etc…

I’ve only painted kit-bashed cars. I used Fusion spray paint with mixed results, seemed important to follow the instructions, who knew?

I hope this helps.

Since the colours varied on where the equipment was painted, and when the equipment was painted, maybe you should just pick colours that look good to you.

Since the only Chessie System stuff I’ve ever actually fully painted was HO something like 30 years ago and I used PollyScale acrylics which have now been out of production for several years, I don’t have any currently relevant input.
Still have a good bottle of PollyScale B&O blue that I use for touchup on my current Bachmann HO Chessie locos.
For the red and yellow, it kinda depends, is the most concise answer I can provide.

Old but talks colors…

Didn’t mean to make the thread so limiting, just thought Chessie fans might know best. I actually first posted the question to a couple of Chessie facebook groups, but no one responded.

Thanks for the link John. Just what I was looking for!

That would be a good one to do the “Save page as” routine with.

And depending on how new and shiny, or not, you want the locos to be, it might be possible to get away with a couple different yellows and vermillions which are each “close enough” in a sort of built-in weathering.

I’m working on painting and retouching some Chessie, C&O and B&O stuff. Some pictures and a list of the rattle cans I’m using is on my page. They are ‘just close’ but not too far off. I bought all the colors at the local Lowes and Walmart.
