Davenport PCB Component

I’m tearing apart a Bachmann Gas-Mechanical Davenport, intending to re-use the chassis/motor in a Banta boxcab kit. (Yes, another bxcab project!)

It has this very strange component - a folded piece of metal that sticks through the board and is held in place by 4 rivets (top right in this pic.)

Anyone know what it is or what it is for?

Looking at bachmanns drawing it appears to house a decoder.

Thank you Mick. (I was just about to look for that drawing to figure out how the headlight comes apart.) Interesting idea - just drop the decoder in to a metal slot. (pic attached.)

Huh and I thought it was the clip that holds the cover over the engine compartment, oh well
