Large Scale Central

New Site Software (was: Sneak peek)

For the last nine or ten months, I’ve been evaluating several possible replacements for the LSC forums software, since it is approaching end-of-life support. I’ve narrowed it down to two, and this is the current favorite.

Its clean, simple, and, so far, very easy to use. You can drag an image from your computer, paste in an image url or YouTube link, and it just works. I’m not wild about the chat package, but Im working on tweaking it to make it a bit friendlier to use.

Stay tuned.

I’m very glad about the pic and vid posting. On one other forum I’m on (not train), all I do is drag and drop from the desktop and it works perfectly.

Good job! And Thanks!

Thanks for the update BD, we all appreciate the time (not to mention financial) investment on your part to make things work for our enjoyment.

i hope, you can evade a mistake many forum bosses did in the last time.

using a software, that only shows “https” pics, not “http”.

they castrated their own forums. most older threads lost their pics, and some hillbilly members can not post pics anymore.

I would be one of those hilbillies (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)My web space provide offers a free certificate, but it only works on the www. domain. I make use of numerous sub-domains and things I post here are from the lsc.cvsry.com subdomain. I checked with them and they said I would need to pay them a certificate fee for each sub-domain. That’s not going to happen, so all my pics are http: not https:

There’s not a lot we can do on an HTTPS site if someone tries to post an HTTP image. All browsers will warn you of mixed content. That does NOT mean the site is insecure, and the way the browsers message this REALLY pisses off forum owners.

Bob - Does that mean when people view an image I posted with an “http\lsc.cvsry.com” url they get a warning message if they are accessing via https:\ ??? I don’t, might have turned them off years ago - don’t remember.

I see the $ sign in the upper right. Will this be upgraded to a pay per view site?

We can all make a newer, better, faster, easier $ 6 Million Dollar website shiny new website!

A bit of followup on the LSC software replacement.

I have not been able to spend as much time as necessary getting the new software up and running, so the schedule mid-October switchover will not happen. We will continue to use the existing software until sometime in the (hopefully) near future.

However, please make sure you have copies of all your photos that you may have uploaded here, to the old Freight Sheds or the new Freight Sheds. I have to cut costs for hosting LSC, and lowering disk space is one of the easiest ways. This will not be happening until the switchover to the new software, but I’d rather give you an advanced heads up instead of getting caught flat footed. I will also pull a backup of all FS files on October 1, so we wont necessarily lose anything.

Is there a way to copy from our Freight Shed and burn to a disc?

Bob introduced me to a free application browser extension called “Down them all” a few years back. I haven’t tried it yet on my Freight Shed, but it will grab all of the photos from a thread if you want. Once local to your PC, it not to hard to make a CD or DVD with them.

UPDATE: Down Them All works in Firefox to grab all the files from a folder in your Old Freight Shed at once. It does not work in the new Freight Shed. The new shed has a download button next to each file. Unfortunately, you cant select all files in a folder and download in one step.

I have seemed to lost my secured largescalecentral site ?

anyone else?

The site went insecure for a bit when the security certificate expired by mine is back to secure

Still “not secure” even after signing in and out a couple of times …

Try this link Sean https://www.largescalecentral.com/members/home

just the ticket !

Thanks…

Now i’m with the program …(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

A small update on the new software.

Working on the importer, so far I can import:

Users

Forums (these are now called ‘Categories’)

Topics and Posts

I’m working on figuring out how to import avatars and forum signatures right now.

One neat feature is that I can create ‘redirect links’ within the import process, so links to forum posts in the old software will go to the NEW post. That’s really neat, and wont break Google searches, or if someone has posted a thread on some other website.

Bob, thanks for the update…

I appreciate all the work you put into this site…

What you do is way above my head, but it is appreciated…
