Wanted - water column

Anyone have a 3 foot models water column they are willing to part with?

Could get an MTH O scale one and stretch it out. Fits pretty good.

Jason

Not sure what you mean by water column do you mean tank spout?

Tim Muluna’s photo of a Water Column at EBT. This is (was) fed by a pressurized underground water line.

I think he might mean one of these -

1:20 BRASS TFCM POAGE TYPE B WATER COLUMN

Columns allowed engines to refill away from the tank or source. Sometimes multiple columns were available.

From post: MTH Water Column mod… (During the Invasion, Fred showed me the MTH Water Columns. I know, they’ve been out for some time, but I had never seen one in person. For under $20, you could just use it to get a nice metal water spout for a water tank, but I decided I’d get some to use in a small space where I didn’t have room for a tank. They seem a bit oversize for O scale, but look pretty good for my 1:20 stuff. The only problem is that it’s a bit short, to say the least.[:p] So, when they arrived, I immediately took one completely apart to see what I could do to make it taller. I found that the column was a 5/16 OD copper tube. I saw that Hobbylinc had 5/16" aluminum rod and decided that would be good enough. Painted black, it fits right in. I may still shorten it a bit, but it was sure an easy bash.

In the picture, the original MTH Water Column is shown on the left. The modified one is shown next to a Connie tender.)

I found this was a cheap and simple solution to the problem of not finding one of the Three Foot Classic.

Jason:

Thanks for your reply and picture. I had the TFCM column on my to buy list (that’s why I sort of knew what Ian was asking about) for a couple of years but obviously waited too long. I just ordered the MTH O scale version today from Active Powersports and hopefully it is actually in stock and they have one to ship.

I received mine few days ago, It was as easy as Bruce said in his post. I raised mine 2“ and it looks good. its a little shorter than his in that picture.

Jason

Jason, you must have gotten the last one. I received the following form the vendor -

"Unfortunately the item that you ordered is currently back ordered until late April. "

Patience I guess will be a virtue. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Mark, Ugh bummer! I found mine off Evilbay

Jason:

You must have found the last one. Before ordering from Active Powersports I searched both via Google and directly in ebay and couldn’t find the MTH version. I found a number of O scale brass ones and the MTH fuel and water column versions. Perhaps the searchfu was weak with me.

Too bad the vendor doesn’t have a better online system that actually ties to stock on hand. Hopefully his estimate is accurate and I’ll have it by end of April; fingers crossed. I’m old and retired and I am trying to do things now, not later.

I’ve seen our thread cop suggest it and requests for emails, so it must be ok, if you’re special…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

It is always in the timing isn’t it, I just happened to have just rebuilt a used MTH column for my RR.

It was a rusty and a little hard to take apart but we did it, added 2 1/2 inches in height and it came out pretty good.

Here it is line side for a photo op, this is not it’s final resting place.

It looks like you have a leaking pipe were it connects …look at the moist ground around it …(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
