      Winter stuff...........

After rebuilding a couple of switches that Bruce had given me and replacing 2 out on the layout, and with colder weather moving in, it was time to bring in some buildings that needed maintenance.

First up was Mancos Freight Forwarding. It looked like all it would need is a coat of paint, but a look/see at the underneath revealed major problems.

Most of the bottom half of the sub structure was in very poor shape. The wood inside it had the texture of paper and just fell out. Which was surprising since the outside seemed in reasonable enough shape.

So much for just needing a coat of paint.

I gave about a half second thought to rebuilding it, but I'd have to tear it all apart to fix it, which was a shame since I definitely liked the look of this building. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

After a few measurements and cutting up some PVC board I had on hand, the rebuild started. I wanted the same look, but the sub structure needed to be a bit more ..........robust.

It's a pretty basic structure. So this part went rather quickly.

I ripped down some redwood I had on hand and started on the outside.

      Stay tuned....................

Well, you made quick work of that, Ken. I doubt you’ll have to rebuild it again

It's all right; Ken will rebuild it again in 30 years, whether it needs it or not.  He's like that, it seems....!!!!

I'm sure the replacement will look great, but I like the falling apart look for structures.  The restoration work at EBT is bittersweet for me because I fell in love with the place when the buildings were in bad shape. Looks too new for me now, but I'm glad they will still be standing next time I get there. Same can be said for Mancos Freight.

The roof was the main reason I wanted to work on it. There wasn't much paint left on it. The railroad gods had other ideas.............

New signs were printed up for it.

      Onward and upward.............

Building the substructure was a piece of cake compared to cutting and gluing all the individual boards in place, but that's another story...........

After a run across the belt sander to smooth the sides a bit, it was on to the roof.

Next is the roof trim and some paint.

Got some paint on the thing yesterday and today. Still needs some the bottom portion.

Finished up the roof. Still needs some touch-up.

And while all this was going on, I repaired the platform, too. Paint was chipped and it was a bit warped.

So do I Jon, to a certain extent.

      But not this decrepit...............;)

I may find a use for it on some other part of the layout.

But, for now, this is what the freight house will look like in Mancos.

Now you can place the decrepit one on some obscure corner of the layout, as an abandon structure, and let nature reclaim it.

      That's the plan, Dave.

Finding an "obscure corner of the layout" might be the tough part................

One done, now on to the next one.

and that "obscure corner of the layout"................
