Pullman Bathroom

I guess this will prove I’ve lost my marbles entirely, but since it’s crazy + railroady, I figure this is the place to gush about my latest “project.”

I have a basement bathroom next to my office, which I use a lot. Probably TMI, but the older I get, the more I use it, and therefore the more important the decor becomes. About a year ago I got a repro railroad brass shelf and a couple Pullman towels. Then a Pullman deodorizer jug. This last Sunday I bought a genuine PM brass cuspidor at the railroadania show in Gaithersburg MD (with our friend here, Jerry B). Also bought a few documents, small posters, and a money bag, for cheap bucks. Haven’t placed those yet, but here’s the early items.

So… the longer I have opportunity to stare at the shower curtain, the more it’s occurred to me, why not make it look sort of like a berth curtain? Long and short of it, I couldn’t see any proto Pullman items (repro or used), or even photos of such a thing. The current curtain needs replacing, and I was thinking of… stencil-spraying a Pullman logo on a blank white curtain? Naah… But then I saw that you can get custom-printed (like everything else) shower curtains, so haaahdayem.

I hung up and photographed my PM blanket…

… adjusted it in Photoshop, and ordered the thing. Here’s a couple shots from the printer places.

Pretty cool, I thought. I decided to go with Zazzle because they have a 15% off deal now. Curtain cost $50, plus shipping and tax. I know, an obsessive waste of moolah, but fun.

Now, some of you who know me might wonder how I’d ever veer away from anything Virginia & Truckee related. The simple answer is that I needed a breather from the V&T, and I figger the bathroom is a good place to get it.

Cliff, my 2nd bathroom has this sign on the door:

(Steam Railway Co., and fake.

P.S. I can have my sister-in-law who us in the UK collect one for you and ship it with the mince pies for Xmas.

The kitchen was usually next to the bathroom in a modified Pullman Standard car …But it needs a stripper pole !

Looking good Cliff !

Cliff - Cool ideas!

.

Rooster -Your clues are interesting.

Rooster, are you suggesting that Cliff should put a stripper pole in his bathroom? Curious…

Install a TV, move your workbench and a fridge in there and you are good to go!

Literally, “good to go”. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Certainly a bigger bathroom than mine, which hardly has room for me, let alone a stripper pole.

7-11 burritos, baby. Not so much of an issue since I quit smoking, but you know what they say, Safety First.

Yesterday, upon seeing that yes, you can get custom-printed towels, I think I finally crossed over to full blown nuthood.

I stretched out a real Pullman hand towel, which I’m sure you’ve all seen.

Then photoshopped it until only the middle logo strip was left. Yes, I spent over an hour erasing between those stitches…

Here’s the Zazzle product preview of the bath towel. Since I’m paying for a full-image thing, and because it looked really barren otherwise, I added the Pullman-blue border.

I bought the 3-piece set (which includes the hand towel and wash cloth), because this is theoretically supposed to remain a guest bathroom… The set was $39 (with their November coupon) + S&H, so $50 total.

If someone wants the artwork for this or the shower curtain, pm me.
