Thanks Dan …i just use a kids shovel and cut the side of shovel down. Then just start digging out .

I have found if you have a well used long handle shovel were the point has been rounded … it will ride the rails nicely … not catching the ties … of course you have to be carful near switches ( switch stands etc. ).
