Coming to town in March in NorCal.
Any good for G-Scale?

Have not been in a few years, but last time it was a pretty good selection. Really depends on the dealers in your area and what type of discounts/specials they are willing to do for the show. Sometimes you can find really good deals, other times, it is business as usual retail pricing.

No matter what, it is a good deal to take the kiddos too just to see the layouts even if the “sale” area is a bit lacking.

I plan to go to the Costa Mesa, CA one in early March, can let you know my opinion after that.

Thanks,

Chris

I just went to the Sacramento show and bought a Pola building at a reasonably good price. My experience of the past couple of years with the shows in the Bay Area is that there is little large scale available, maybe two or three vendors. I go to about two a year because I’m ever hopeful and I’ll be going to the Pleasanton show at the end of March.

I went to the “Great Train Show” in Pleasanton three years ago. Saw a lot of ‘HO’ and ‘O’ gauge stuff and only two vendors were selling ‘G’ scale stuff. No ‘G’ gauge trains running. Cost me 10 bucks each for the wifey and me to get in the door plus 9 bucks parking plus expensive food. Didn’t see anything I needed and I came away empty. That will be the last time for me. I see a LOT more ‘G’ scale trains for sale at the local BAGRS swap meets and meetings.

Here in northern Illinois, we have the Great Midwest Train Show monthly, on a Sunday, at the DuPage County Fairgrounds. Every month except July, due to the DuPage County Fair going on that month.

Depending on the Vendors, it’s usually an even mixture of Lionel, HO, and G scale, with usually 2 layouts of each throughout the fairgrounds. Admission is usually $7 for adults, kids free, and if you’re on their mailing list, you can print out a Spouse Free ticket as well.
