I recently received an Eggliner for Christmas and I am interested in customizing it. What have you all done to your Eggliners? Thanks for your help.

lots of things can be built from an eggliner.
it could be converted into a motorized tender
or into any small, industrial loco with an outside frame
or into a railcar
or into anything whimsy or fantasy…
Given my whimsical bent and, having seen a vintage airliner (DeHavilland Fox Moth) where the passengers sat inside the cabin and the pilot was above and behind them, outside, I planned a similarly arranged rail car. I was going to cut a hole in the rear of the Eggliner roof with a windshield and a figure sticking out wearing helmet, goggles and a white scarf in the breeze. I also had two Aristo streamliner ends I would use to fashion a matching trailing car for luggage, etc and both would receive an aircraft-like paint job.
Imagination is a great thing but can lead to an overabundance of ideas never to be realized. I sold these things off in a recent downsizing move.

I should preface my previous remarks with the fact that I would like to utilize the Eggliner shell in any sort of mod that I decide to do. John, from what I have heard, there are two types of large scale modelers: Those that like Eggliners, and those that don’t. I am of the former category. While I appreciate realistic and detailed models, I also appreciate the whimsical ones as well. Case in point, I put small plush animals on my trains for the train crew.

You could haul stuff behind your eggliner in an egghauler, or a string of them.
I don’t know about outdoors but for an indoor loop I always thought it would be fun to use the decal eyes and mouth from a scale model Flying Tigers aircraft on the Eggliner and have it chasing a Bachmann Handcar that sped up when the “Tiger” got too close then slowed down when they apparently got tired of pumping so hard. Great use for a small radius of track.

Dave Bodner did something like that using IR detectors and emitters. But I think it was the trailing egg that sped up and slowed down, in response to the gap between the two.
