Large Scale Central

SD40-2w Build

SD40-2w

This is going to be the running mate for the SD40Qrm, but I think the stripes will also go well with the SD60f.

I got the cab design complete, have the basic model built, and have started adding detail. Measurements had to be modified to fit the USA Trains model. I had to widen the cab by 1/8" and shorten it by 1/8".

Man he’s quick …practice makes perfect … (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Will be another nice addition to the fleet.

Sean, far from perfect, but each build gets easier as I learn different tricks.

Chris, I hope so. Sometimes it’s a pain having to modify everything, but I think it will pay off. I have always loved the uniqueness of CN’s equipment.

I got the snow shields designed and have the basic shapes built. They still need to be sanded and detailed. I’m very happy with how they turned out.

Shane

So when are you going to build one of these?

No stripes …(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Chris, they are an interesting looking unit, but I’ll leave them for the CP guys to build. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

This was fun. Now I get to do the other side. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)Hinges still need to be added.

Great weathering job !

Thanks Sean. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)I was worried that it was a little too extreme, but I’m glad you like it. I need to add a little more rust where parts have fallen off. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Well I remember adding louvers the same way in three different patterns for both sides. Enjoy(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Man do I need to get back into the build saddle!

Shane,

I’m working on a printed inertial filter grill to replace the solid chunk. I should be ordering a test one this week and if it works out I will be making the radiator grills also. Just in case you are interested.

I might be interested if I’m allowed to be ?

Of course, I will see how fragile they end up being.

David, lots of work, but worth it. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Chris, I’m interested, but sometimes shipping between our countries makes things cost prohibitive. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)

Rooster, yes you do. We need more build threads. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Distracted again!!!(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

The Dash 9’s ugly red paint was really starting to bug me. I was considering a total rebuild, but decided I’d try a repaint first, and if it didn’t work, I’d tackle a rebuild.

Looks 100% better in new paint. I should get the unit numbers added early next week. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)
