      Dave T's 2018 Build Challenge

      Of Course I'm in.

But even thou I've known what the challenge was going to be for a year and a half,  I struggled on what to build till today.  Several things were on the list,  Timber Truss Bridge,  Tunnel Portal and Water Mill.   But a moment of insanity swept over me I changed my mind when I got home from work tonight.

I Hope that I can keep within my 2x4..

You had us all worried there for a moment, Dave.  4 years of challenges combined into one.  What a POWERful concept.

OK GUYS......   I need an official ruling!!

I started to figure out how to turn the smokestack.   I have a block of western cedar.   I think that turning the stack out of soft cedar will be a useless endeavor if I want it to stand for more then a short time outside.

I would like to ask if it would be OK if I substituted  a like amount of ASH for the same amount of Cedar that I cut out for the stack?

      Dave

I don't recall anywhere in the rules that stated the 2x4 couldn't be multi-species.  But, the most important question you have to ask yourself: Are you still having fun?  If yes, carry on

Dave, I'm not even using my 2x4! When I took down my late dad's greenhouse I got 1/2 inch by 27 inch prime redwood and even though the layout is indoors now I m using it once again! It may be dry but there are no knots! Turn away with that ash! You have my support!

As you have probably  noticed the lack of my posting of late,  I will be getting a late start and having to play catch-up.

It's 0232 hr's (MST) and I sit in the ICU, holding the hand of my very best friend for the past 26 years.  This is the sixth night in a row now, and it looks like there will be more to come.

She is making small steps of progress,  and the respirator is doing less work daily.  And they skipped a day of dialysis today.  Come morning, her husband will come take over the watch and I'll go home and get some rest, and maybe get some time to make some saw dust before coming back tomorrow night.

In life there are certain priorities, And a lifelong friend is way up at the top.

A real labour of love Dave.  I know many here will think of you, your friend and her husband.

Thank you Dave, for being a good friend.

I'm positive your presence made her ordeal less so.

      Be Blessed.

Thee are no truer friends than those that are there when we need them the most.  I know your friend derives a great deal of comfort knowing you are there for her.  We will keep her in our prayers.  And yes, you got your priorities straight.

Shanna's still in ICU, with progress.   I'm getting acclimated to the All night thing and sleeping in the mornings.

I did find time today to cut some wood, and just might start building.    I Asked if I could bring my pin nailer into the ICU, so I could maybe spend some of the hours on something constructive, and they looked at me like I was crazy!!  Oh they did say NO!!

It's tough dealing with non RR people..

You could hook it up to the O2 and not have to bring the compressor inside, big win there! Tell them its theraputic for Shanna to hear it!

Actually got some building done..   Front wall.

And the side walls..  I decided that there needed to be a service door large enough the bring in the heavy equipment.

Back @ the ICU..  But it's a start..
