Moving the BIG BOY - new data?

With a “special edition” magazine dedicated to the moving and restoration of the BIG BOY announced as published for sale in August, is this realistic?

Anyone with hard data on the status of this loco? Is it still on a siding at the LA County Fair Grounds awaiting movement to the Colton freight yard for preparation to push it on to Wyoming?

I read Jan. 26 they’re cutting the metro(?) line and pulling it over to the panel track and take it out to Colton, where it gets prepped for the long haul.
Disclaimer I’m trusting my memory, didn’t dble ck.

Official News from UP. Date of move from Fairgrounds to Colton will be on Jan 26th.

“The steam giant is scheduled to depart the Fairplex parking lot in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 26, on the first leg of its 1,293-mile trek. No other public display stops have been scheduled on Metrolink track…Rail fans are invited to view No. 4014 in Colton Yard on Feb. 1-2, and 8-9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors should access the rail yard at 19100 Slover Ave., Bloomington, Calif. Thanks. We hope to see it in Colton.

I’m surprised they didnt move it over the christmas/new years break. Thats the slowest time of year on the Metro line service.

Craig , Thank’s for the info!

I think that the Diesel, Caboose, and boxcar, that they are trading for weren’t done yet.

And when they split the rail to the Metro, they plan on pulling 4014 out, and then running the Diesel with it’s two cars back in, before they re-hook the metro line. The Diesel has been freshened up mechanically and all three have a new paint job. The diesel is operational. Maybe something else is in their back of mind, at Pomona.

I wonder jest what engines they will use for the transfer? Brand new in parade grade paint, or just any one that the engine shop has up and running! They know what kind of attention the transfer will bring.

Maybe some special # with some sort of tie in, or history in it’s own right?

My guess, There newest big horsepower unit, spit shined like the $1m it is.

And those that get to see it "WE WANT PICS "

I will definitely see it when it comes up from Las Vegas, into Utah. The UP mainline is just north of me about 50 miles. I will be there.

Some videos of the move on youTube.

Why is it so damn difficult to post a simple youtube link on this site?

It is good to her rolling again! It will be even better when she is under steam and running a full speed! I’m sure there are those who have the history video about the Big Boy.

Yeah, I had this idea that the Big Boy was…well… BIG! But compared to those diseasals, it seems kinda puny.

Disappointing, sorta.
