Large Scale Central

My expensive very large bird

This is my orange friend. She is very well behaved but requires a lot of TLC.

This is her parked in York PA for ECLSTS back in March:

Sweet!

Nice plane…A friend who is a pilot told me a plane is like a hole in the sky you try to fill with money. A boat owner told me the same. Thats why I prefer models of planes and boats, they are still money holes but the hole is just a little smaller.

I cheat. I rent her out to flight students so I fly pretty much for free. Not everyone is ok with other people flying their ‘baby’ but it doesn’t bother me. In fact, I kinda like seeing students learn to fly in her. Makes me feel like I’m giving something back.

Aaaaaaaaaa, a Cessna 172. I’ve spent many hours in these airplanes as an instructor and private flying. They are a great airplane. Wish I could still fly, but the almighty FAA doesn’t approve of the prescription meds I have to take so no more medical.

As long as they don’t run out of altitude, airspeed and ideas, all at the same time, everything should be ok, right, Martan? Besides, that’s what insurance is for…

Oh, it’s insured!

This is my second plane. So far, the students have only broken minor things.

I’d have to say the risk is worth it.

It lets me do things like fly to York for ECLSTS:

Now, if I could just make my train hobby pay for itself, hmm…

When my dad was flying it was $100 ice cream cones in our family  He had a 172 for a couple of years (he had rented for years before finally buying one) before the annual inspection showed that it needed a complete engine rebuild. They didn’t have the funds needed, so they donated the plane to a charity. If it’s a FAA approved bolt it’s 10x more expensive than the standard bolt at the hardware store!

Here’s his former plane.

NIce pics Martan …I was looking at the airel of the ski slope shot wondering if that was ski roundtop …not sure of any other slopes close to the York area .

That is somewhere north of Hagerstown MD I think, I’m not sure exactly. I’m coming from the south so I had to fly up and around Camp David to avoid the black helicopters.

A friend of mine and I share a Cessna 150. lots of fun
