Large Scale Central

The Salida & Western

…has moved. Been pondering this for a few months, so with tape measure in hand went looking for a suitable area. The garage is a bit dusty and the fiddle yard area was over the window I use to for the outdoor layout and kept banging my head on it. And frankly I could use the extra storage space out there. After measuring a few areas in the downstairs rec room, I settled on this spot.

It’ll be about 4’ shorter than the old layout, but I can compress most of the sidings as they were too long anyway.

As you can see I got a lot done yesterday. I need to replace a fluorescent bulb in the valance, and I may need to get a a few recessed light fixtures, but I think this’ll work…

looks like a nice spot, Ken…

Nice and warm ;) Ralph

Now weather will not be an excuse. Too hot, too cold, too wet, nope just right.

Nice Ken.

Is it done yet!

I think I’m gonna use that as the meat packing plant…That was one of those Stoney CreeK models I bought awhile back…

a little progress…

Finally have the track plan down the way I wanted it.

Still working on some running problems.

I may go with DCC on this layout, but that’s a ways down the road.

Ken that looks like it should give you a lot of challenge during ops. Is that your track plan idea or a copy of an existing track plan?

It’s probably a close resemblance to the “Timesaver”, but it mainly was just putting track down in an interesting way…

As best as I can figure, the “Timesaver” puzzle is when you have both leading and opposing sidings combined with a run around track. The key to the “Timesaver” is the length of the sidings in relation to the scale and the rolling stock, plus motive power used. Some sidings should have room just for one car or one car and the motive power. The round around track should have room for two cars. Andy C. created the “Timesaver” in 1/29th in the town of Bluefield on the Bluestone Southern with the idea of using double headed GP38’s and 70 foot autoracks. Makes for a lot of track, but they just fit.

…grinning…
