1853 - The Toronto, the first steam locomotive manufactured in Canada, makes its first run on the Ontario, Simcoe & Huron Union Railway. 1853 - First section of the Illinois Central Railroad completed from LaSalle to Bloomington, Illinois. 1883 - Denver & Rio Grande Western Railway reaches Ogden, Utah. 1956 - New York Central unveils lightweight Xplorer streamliner. 1988 - ICC approves purchase of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (Katy) by Union Pacific subsidiary, Missouri Pacific.
