Lengthening Sierra Cars?

I like varnish. I prefer the extra detail and closed vestibules of Aristo’s varnish to Bachmann’s. But the Aristo “Sierra” cars are TOO short. I also have some Aristo Sierra cars that have seen better days. Has anyone tried sawing the ends off of two of them and glomming them together to get a more prototypical length? (Yes, I realize that the “Sierra” length did exist, but 60’-70’ varnish was far, far more common in the early 1900s.)

I won’t be taking a hacksaw to these any time soon, just wanted to know if I should bother keeping the beaters around for such a project.

Thanks,

Paul

I did a whole train of these cars back in the day. They make pretty nice cars when completed. Link to old forum post below. Some pics have gone missing thanks to ransomebucket.

Dennis’ coaches ended up with a friend of mine in Florida, (who built a large indoor layout in an air-conditioned industrial condo.)

Dennis and Pete, thanks for the photos. The cars look great. Good inspiration,

Paul
