Train wreck & fire in Ft Worth

Just happened yesterday. I haven’t heard of fatalities, thank God. But since it happened next to a stable, 3 horses didn’t make it. Huge ethanol fire, and it looks like the ethanol is still pouring out of some cars.

News report and video

Interesting the way they used that trencher to dump water on the fire.

Wot! No portable pumps available? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Hmm, interesting that the derailment seems to have happened at the stable’s location when there is open ground some distance to either side; did someone want the derailment to happen right by the stable?

With all the rain this year in Texas, it looks like the roadbed may have been compromised. Look at the water flowing next to the track.

I hope most of that was water… but at 4:10 you can see the tanker contents (they’re saying ethanol) pouring into the flow, perhaps one of many that were doing so.

Wonder if ethanol breaks down in water?

Ethanol will absorb water. I am sure eventually it breaks down, after all a person doesn’t stay drunk indefinitely without adding more ethanol to their system. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Ethanol is wood alcohol and deadly if you drink it, gonna be a lot of dead fish downstream. Those guys are really brave, if the fire flares up on one of those tanker and explodes those guys will land in Oklahoma.

Vic,

Methanol acquired the name wood alcohol because it was once produced chiefly by the destructive distillation of wood.

Ethanol is a renewable fuel made from corn and other plant materials. Ethanol fuel is ethyl alcohol, the same type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, used as fuel.
