Yes, welcome Ben, those Accucrafts are really nice.  I have seen one of the K27's that belongs to the local G scale shop's repair tech.  They put the Bachmann ones to shame and much more durable overall being made of brass/stainless steel.  Hope your able to pick up atleast one of them.      Mike

Welcome and nice of you to step out of the shadow.

I don't think you should wait on Mickey to buy, judging by a post on the other site, he did his homework and found the price range of Accucraft. He was of the original mind set of trading a cheapo Bachmann 4-6-0 for better and shied away at the Bachmann K around a grand  ...

There are buyers, but it may take time to turn their heads, pics can help.

      Best of luck to you,

      Mickey,

There are a pair of operating K 27's that run on my railroad from time to time.

One is a Bachmann that has had new counter-weights and a new gearbox installed.

Not because the gearbox failed: it was the wrong ratio.

The other is an Accucraft and has it's motor and gearbox rebuilt (When it was new) by

      Dave Goodson.

From a distance, you can't tell them apart. They both run perfectly and sound great. One has an Aiwire system

and the other has a Revo system. We have even double headed them a few times.

Here's links of a couple vids of the Accucraft running.

There are other locos running on our wintertime indoor as well in the first vid.

For some reason, I haven't filmed the Bachmann K.

Second vid is her running on our outdoor layou with other locos.

I tried posting photos yesterday from my phone but found the site is not to phone friendly. I‘ll get some info and photos up this weekend.

I had two Bachmans, there nice models for the price. They sold at auction for nearly a grand each.

      John,

Any chance you know of someone with another of Rodney's gearboxes?

I'm afraid to run my Bachmann K without one -- I've actually melted LGB track power wires from the amp draw involved with running the stock engine at slower speeds

      Robbie,

Several months ago I managed to hunt  a good phone number for Rodney and contacted him on the subject of making another run of those gear  boxes. Politely, but he emphatically declined. Considering they were for the most part a made to order order gear box using special cut gears, even reverse engineering would present it's own set of difficulties without having one to dis-assemble and measure. I am sure not what you wanted to hear, but the most recent info avaiable as far as I know.

I may look into possibly generating the engineering to make a similar unit using commercial off the shelf parts. If I remember correctly the ratio of his box was something along he lines of 1.9:1. Maybe some time in the W.M. Berg or Stock Products catalogs might work. I might also look at metric gearing, they usually have different offerings.

      Good luck Robbie

I know the two RGS Stock cars are gone. I purchased them.
