As most have said already, hard choices.

I picked 3 but they are wrong because to many top choices are being left out.

Would liked to have seen some of the DNF's completed, like Jon's building supply, Craig's weathering project and Travis's tank.

      Well choices

1-- Scott's produce building, just outstanding

2-- Dan's work caboose, flawless design and build with an SBS format that ended with a beautiful car.

3-- Jim's store, love the "knockdown" design and outstanding signage.

Everyone did great work, and some was really outstanding.  But we can only pick three, so...

      1 - Rick Marty

      2 - Devon Sinsly

      3 - Jim Rowson

Wow, hard to choose. So many ways to think about it. Have to pick, so:

      1. Rick Marty

      2. Devon Sinsley

      3. Scott Johnson

HM's for Eric Mueller, Vic Smith.

But I really liked all of the projects. Very impressive modeling.

The Vote from Hawai'i is in!

Before writing down our votes, let me repeat what has been said above...Thanks to all who participated and so freely shared their techniques and provided a lot of inspiration.

CINCHOUSE, Oldest Daughter, and Youngest Daughter helped with the vote (the boys are in bed), heavily weighing scratch-built over kit-bashed in their votes and then applying an aesthetic value.  This broke my own mental deadlock as I tried to balance how to weigh these two very different expressions of modeling talent - scratch-building vs. kit-bashing.  In the end, our collective votes fell as follows:

      1.  Devon Sinsley's Steam Crane.  We were unanimous.  The ladies gave this a nod over Rick's entry for aesthetics alone; I would've been wishy-washy and declared a tie between these two magnificent models.
      2. Jim Rowson's Mackenzie's Mercantile.  We all admired the craftsmanship; again, the ladies' unanimous votes edged Jim into second.
      3. Dave Taylor's Box Cars.  Much the same results as above.  The ladies declared these "cute," giving Dave's work a bump over Scott Johnson's produce platform.

"Spirit of the Mik." We unanimously voted Bill Barnwell's Sunrise Café for the 2019 for showcasing how to turn seeming scrap into a useable and attractive model. Oldest Daughter did nominate Tim of Alaska for a.) being in Alaska during the winter and b.) probably having to deal with many of the same issues we face in terms of locally available "large scale" resources.

We really, really had fun, and we appreciated this annual opportunity!

      Aloha,

      Eric and Family

Wow.  Just wow.  I am seriously impressed.

1st - tie between Devon and Ricks crane cars - simply incredible detail.

2nd - Vic's Silver Zephyr - the quirkiness appeals to me.

3rd - Bill Barnwell's roadside diner - I liked the interior detail work.

Eric's double hulled sailing locomotive and Todd's doodlebug both get honorable mentions.

Ths year was with out a doubt the most impressive builds I have seen. Congrats to all who entered and all the great ideas and techniques used and shown and explained to us. I have been thinking hard on who to put where and really want to make a 5 or 7 way tie for !st place. Everyone made it exceptionly hard to choose a winner and there are no losers here this year. So here we go:

#1 Devon Sinsley. Wildly weathered and exactly what he set out to do.

      # 2 Dave Taylor. The woodwork alone is awesome, the fact its in 1:20 makes it even more so.

#3 Rick Marty. I had a hard time where to put your build Rick, and it  deserves 1st  with Devon, flipped a coin 2 out of 3 to determine the difference

Spirit of Mik,  Eric Mueller. getting the whole family in and all that help was great.

First time Award to Scott Johnson you said you had some parts, it looks like a scratch build, great job !!

      1....Jim Rowson

      2....Scott Johnson

      3....Todd Haskins

Spirit Of Mik ...Eric Muller (as stated for involving the kids and allowing them to help build) kudos Eric!!

"Big Thanks"  to Dave for putting this together for us yet another year! This was probably the best year yet with the builds and the open category. It was an incredibly difficult decision and they well all outstanding builds "Great Work Guys". The cranes were over the top and should have been in their own category. I got tired of trying to decide how to place between the two so I had to rule them out and move on. (Fantastic Work Guys)!

Jim's venture into trying new techniques and materials was excellent and in the spirit. Scotts first time plunge turned out excellent. Todd's monster Doodlebug was awesome especially since it ran on a 2.5 radii...

Congratulations to all as they are all winners!

BTW, I don't know if anyone else noticed, or even if it was intentional, but Todd Haskins gets the award for best Drum Majorette..., and he can lead a parade of trains anytime.

      Well,

I didn't receive a ballot in my mail.

I don't have a voting app. on my phone.

I went to my polling place and they had no idea what I was talking about.

HOW DO I KNOW MY VOTE WILL REALLY COUNT???

      Any way...

      1) Devon Snisley

      2) Scott Johnson

      3) Rick Marty

If you followed the last two Challenges, you will remember Dave has been outsourcing vote collection and counting. You will be hearing from your local KGB agent shortly.
