"Could have been" 7/8 Class A/B Climax

Dennis Thompson is a good friend of mine. I have his book, the “Climax Locomotive”. I spoke to him about building a Class A Climax in 7/8. Using his book as a reference and his drawings,

after considering the design, I decided on a Class B. After research, we found one example of a Class B in a semi enclosed body with a tender. It was a shortline back East somewhere.

So I started my build of a 7/8 scale Class A/B (as Dennis called it, jokingly.

The donor was a Bachmann Climax

And the tender, which had a wooden water tank.

Nicely done. Clever use of your “donor” climax mixed with well executed scratch building. The final result is terrific.

One of the photos that inspired the project.

Very nicely done

Very nice . . . (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

I got those from the 7/8 section at Ozark Miniatures. Other than The Train Department , I don’t know of any 7/8 suppliers in the US.

Thanks, . . I’ll contact them. I have som “G” stuff that I’m converting to 7/8 n2

Sweet.

That’s really well done, John.

Did you use India ink for the weathering?

Those overlapping corner joints are a point of interest.

It has an ink wash. Some rust and dirt is still yet to be added. I may change out the sitting figure for a standing one as well.

The lettering is real paint, not decals. That was a first for me.

Dennis Thompson saw it running yesterday and liked it for a “what if” model.

John & Group:

Haven’t been on this forum for a while and just saw your post and photos John. Seeing it in person was the best treat but your construction photos I really appreciate. It is a really good model; runs and sounds good. Merry Christmas, Dennis

You need to drop in from time to time, Dennis.

If you go to my albums you can see most of the 1:20.3 builds and now I’m putting some 7/8 builds in the albums.
