West End Steam Powered Yard Light Tower

With a Club open house rapidly approaching, my first radio controlled locomotive being a switcher and my traditional late afternoon to dusk event timing, it occurred to me that the new West End yard needed a light tower:

Fortuitously (my new favorite word) I had 12v Weatherproof LED 3 light modules, Plastruct 5/8" Open Web Truss, Evergreen 1/4" Angle and Tube on hand plus power was available in the yard:

The truss and angle were a great fit:

Not scale lights but mostly hidden from above:

And certainly bright enough:

How does a tall, willowy tower withstand 50 mph (actual test) winds? A 1/8"brass rod driven several inches into the ground and in a plastic tube all the way up the tower:

Installed and ready to dazzle:

Open house and working great:

Lighting the night!

All my lights are on a ‘dusk to dawn’ photocell and have been coming on faithfully for over 6 years. I can enjoy the railroad every night whether trains are running or not. Questions?

very neat tower, I also light by stuff with solar pathway lights but each building has its own and it’s kind of neat cause not all the batteries last the same length of time so every once and a while a light will go out, “gone to Bed”

That worked! Lighting effects at night look so good.
