Large Scale Central

progress report on the RGSNH Track extension

Today was the day of the big washout between bridge 45A and the Lizard head tail track

Following closely on its heals was the erection of the frame to support the Ophier town site

more posts and cross braces to go before track laying starts. trip to the home depot tomorrow.

Hope to have all the track back together for train ops. will keep you posted with updates.

updated to correct the pictures

obviously I need some help with picture posting. not sure what I am doing wrong,. photo are in my freight shed.

obviously I need some help with picture posting

So let it be written, so let it be done…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Open each pic,( I’d resize in my computer because this large format will quickly eat up the space in your shed). Normally we post 800 pixels wide, this one was in 4 digits(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

I reduced it with the posting box.

Open pic and copy the location, with firefox it’s a right click and copy location, then back on the other tab I open the mountain icon and paste the location. then I set the size… and ok. > After it’s entered, hit Enter on your keyboard to release the cursor.

I hope this helps.

The thing that I see most people misinterpreting is the right click. They right click on the page, and then end up pasting the entire page. When you right click to capture the photo’s online location, your mouse pointer has to be ON the picture. That way you capture the picture location, and not the page location.

I don’t know if this is the mistake you made or not. Its just the mistake I have seen several other folks make.

Those trestles are super nice Al. Building them curved and on a grade takes some engineering.

Todd, you are absolutely right.

Here’s a pic Al posted in an earlier thread: http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/17628/open-house-at-the-rio-grande-southern-of-nh

Those look great! My luck an amber would come out of the fire pit and burn the trestle down.

Looking forward to your progress.

Chris

Chris,

funny story about the fireplace. when I first purchased the property a neighbor was interested in acquiring it. I questioned whether or not it could be moved without breaking apart. said she had a friend with a big bucket loader who could come in and pick it up. I said ok, but who is going to fill in the bucket loader tracks, and re-seed the lawn? I think that put and end to it. an being that it is now land locked by railroad is not easily used, in fact I have never grilled a burger on it because it is missing the grill. cannot be bothered to knock it down either.

Al P.

I thought it was a monument to Summer Holidays Past. I think it should be celebrated as a memory of past Q’s where Rooster, I mean chicken, was on the menu.

WOW that is an amazing trestle AL. I recently made 14 bents to rebuild a bridge but it is only 9" tall. Yours is amazing.

You should run a spur line to the old BBQ and turn it into a mountain for mining. You could light a fire in it and you have a volcano.

one of the things that has taken some time is the construction of my first large scale curved turnout. show below is the layout of the PVC ties for this switch.

the finished switch installed. I thought I had taken more pictures of its construction but no soap.

and finally a work train to Ophier Loop late this afternoon.

off for more supplies in the morning.

Al P.

I like the construction of your addition. Your turnout came out really nice also.

Been working to hard to take many pictures, these are the results at the end of today

view from the house side. in the center someday will be bridge 45B. for now just a filler section

I also got the ties in today for the next turnout. this passing siding doubles as Ophier / Trout lake passing siding on my layout.

this last view shows the framing for the passing siding. it will eventually parallel the Ophier station frame and connect back up to Lizard head shortly.

All for now.

Al P.

That looks good. What height are you setting the rail at?

Chris,

not sure, just level off the bridge for now. once thru the passing siding will be a slight grade up to the old construction.

I can get an approximate height in the morning.
