Steam events in Europe this weekend

Two large steam events going on in Europe this weekend,

In Wolsztyn they are having there steam parade with 11 steam locomotives operating.

At the same time in Trier 9+ steam locomotives plus historic electric and diesel locomotives are having a 4 day event. Today they ran 42 trains with each trip 1-3 hours long. We only had time for 4 trips today

11 operating steam locomotives. Why can’t we have that here in the states?

…and the UK timetable for 2018. There is one or two within easy distance of most rail fans…(well…we are a small island)!.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

So if you are visiting the UK in 2018…

You lucky so and so Stanley. I hope you are having a great time. I read that the Trier event is a “Plandampf” where those locos are hauling proper scheduled service trains, not just steam hauled special rail tours. Wolsztyn is mentioned in our UK heritage rail comics on a regular basis, they say you can ride on the footplate there. Apparently a group of British enthusiasts are responsible for pushing that last one along of late. The British “new build” Pacific “Tornado” was employed recently in our own UK version of a “Plandampf” on the Settle to Carlisle route, replacing a regular service train.

Today we made another 4 trips with 3 different locomotives. 01-150 made a guest appearance with a full train yesterday making 10 Steam locomotives in Trier. There is a group of more then 150 Brits in attendance having lots of fun.

Today we rode some big steam. The trips this year are all extras and the trains are full.

With access by cheap short haul air travel from many regional airports and high speed rail travel from London to Europe, fully bookable in the UK via DB’s own ticketing website, I’m not surprised there were a few British enthusiasts in attendance. Thanks for posting those pictures.

The event in Trier is now over. Got to ride all 9 steam.
