That sould be great fun Vic and those s#@$%nts will be excellent for desert land scaping, just watch out for roosters in cowboy boots!

Scott's use of lava rock is pretty cool too.  It is unusual to see a ghost train actually running through a ghost town, but totally fitting!

Couple detail pics of the brackets. I pre-drilled the holes thru the 1x2s and countersunk for the screw heads to prevent splitting, which can be an issue with thin wood like that. I also pre-drilled the hole for the track fastener for the same reason. The 1x2s laid flat give a nice wider platform for the track. I used 8 brackets total for good support. I think the HLW version only used 6 brackets.

I mostly just need to start filling it with dirt up to near the rim. Once there I can start looking at how to install the rocks I want and make niches for plants.

or put in enough blocks of styropor, before you fill up with heavy stuff.

Its on a dolly already, I learned that lesson a while ago. I'm thinking about adding styrofoam filler to cut the weight down, it would also reduce the amount of dirt to shift.

I'd give it a false floor 1-2" from the top and make cutouts for potted plants to drop in as needed. A mossy cover in-between or scale dirt.

Please don't axe me, I'll talk nonsense or the more exotic gibberish.

I don't know which scale all y'all use, so you must size your own dirt.

Vic, John has the right idea. The HLW kit use to come with a circular piece of wood so you weren't filling up the whole barrel with dirt. I don't know how to do a link, but if you search YouTube for "HLW Barrel Kit", it shows the whole package.

      won't let me delete...

so crazy this editor is. I went to delete a bad utube vid and it didn't show in the edit box, so I reposted and it returned.

Tried again, typed in the above exasperation and it was deleted!

      Go figure methinks.

Update, someone smarter than me suggested filling in the bottom with a false bottom or filling it with styrofoam to take up space and lighten it up. So...three Lil Big Hauler box fillers later. Will use sand to fill it so it will drain better than the adobe hard dirt we have.

Night shift...two bags of sand laying around, rocks from the pile, now adding gravel topping.

Rocks and things., I added rocks sculpturally I have and infilled the top with crushed gravel. In keeping with my tradition of using whatever the hell is available when I build, I then hacked together two structures using some treated lumber scraps, looks reasonable if you squint. I have a couple ideas to reduce their brutality. Next over time I will sort in small succulents into the nooks and crannies. But it's getting close.
