DCC-controlled switch machines

I have a DCC layout (NCE), and am interested in eventually controlling most of my switches via NCE mini-panels (for local control) and, in the distant future, a 'puter. I’m starting small, with several Train Li DC/DCC switch machines and one mini-panel.

Does anyone have experience controlling either the Piko or Train Li switch machines in this manner, and have any comments as to which is better? Seems like the Piko units are more weatherproof, but their optional decoders are very expensive.

Speaking of which, has anyone used the Piko with a (much cheaper) NCE stationary decoder, e.g., the SwitchKat? Any problems?

Lastly, any comments on weatherproof RJ-12 connectors / boxes / etc. for the cab bus?

Thanks for any tips,

Cliff
