damp battery charger

Anyone have it come back, was outside under deck but got damp in a monsoon over the weekend.

NiCad charger from Don Sweet bought it a few years ago, now does not work, been drying out but dont seem to be lucky.

Don’t plug it in again. Hopefully nothing has fried yet.

You can try opening it up and scrubbing the PC board with a toothbrush soaked in 90% alcohol. Pay special attention to very small traces around IC’s. Sometimes this will remove corrosion that is shorting traces. It has worked for me on old Phonix sound boards. YMMV.

Let it dry out again for several hours before trying it again.

Once you have it clean of corrosion and gunk and thoroughly dry, spray the pcb with a clear pcb lacquer to help keep it that way.

Is there anything special about this charger ? Does it run off the mains ?

I can get mains operated Nicad chargers here for $20 , sometimes less when offers are on .

So rather than risk my neck with a dodgy charger , I would buy a new one .

But I am not very adventurous .

not going to work, oh well.

Anyone know where to get another charger?

Tom H

Don Sweet still exists.

Many places to buy chargers, amazon, ebay, etc.

Tom,

Is that a Celcon charger? If so, don’t do anything as mentioned above, give Don a call.

It must not be for charging “dry cells,” eh?
