Large Scale Central

Slightly OT

but does anyone on this site know where I might find plans for a somewhat scaled-down version of a grade crossing warning cross-bucks, flashing lights, bells and all the trimmings? I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen plans somewhere, but can’t recall where it might have been.

Since the neighbours hereabouts pay no attention to my loud train noises, I thort I might give’em the chance to ignore some loud crossing bell sounds as well.

TIA

Not scaled-down, but a neat site with plans.

I drew this years ago when I picked up a set of lights. The post is short, but the cross-bucks are pretty close to full scale Got all the pieces made, but never planted it…

And since you are posting this in electronics, you probably want to know how to make the lamps flash alternately. My solution was to use 12V bulbs and an old-fashioned two-way automotive flasher.

Another time sink. I need to make an index of all these cool sites.

Glad to be of help. I hope you fare better at getting the project done than I did. I had the schedule 40 in stock for years. Ended up using it on a drainage project. The lights still hang in my garage.

Hanging in your grarj, you say? Hmmmmmmmmm…lemme think about this for a while…

Twould cost more than buying a new set to ship them across the pond - IF I was willing to sell.

Let me think a bit re flashing lights. Are std LEDs big enough…?

Cheers from NE Wales

If you built an LED array, or just grabbed the guts from a round automotive tail light, then yes. A single LED wouldn’t cut it. What you would loose using LED’s to light real crossing lamps would be the white indication on the side. The with indication is just a window into the side of the housing. It allows the train crew to observe if the signal is working.

So Terry - How is the project coming?

I don’t know about UK, but you can get any kind of LED array tail/brake lights at a trailer supply.
Already set up for 12 volts, no messing with resistors, etc.
