Topic: Trackplan help

Message: Ric Golding wrote:David your idea with the double throw double switches is pretty much straight forward and simple. You can take the power from the track that you want to apply the power from for the dual powered track and keep the wiring real simple. The dpdt switches make it that you can't make a mistake. If you do the installation of the electrical switches by the turn outs, you can keep it real simple.
Even while running two trains? Seems like I'll wind up with two trains on one controller.

Topic: February Snow

Message: Bruce Chandler wrote:Well, they're saying that they can't use their pick up fleet to clear the subdivisions because the snow is too deep; last snowstorm they cleared right away, but it was only 6 inches. I heard that here in Northern Virginia we have 9,000 miles of subdivision roads to clear. It's going to be awhile.
According to the GroundHogs®, only 5 more weeks to go. Will they clear the roads or just wait for it to melt??? Contrast that with the Olympics situation, snow being trucked and choppered in from quite some distance. When they announced, way back when, that certain events were to be at Cypress Mountain I questioned their sanity. I had then only lived in BC for 3 years.

Message: Tony, it is not just that they do not wish to learn from the past, but also, they want to have the last word or else they fear the loss of their manhood. The reason I do not post here very often these days is because of these recalcitrants.

Topic: Controlling switching operations

Message: I use all manual switches with Tenmille ground throws and follow the trains. Since I'm on benchwork at a nominal 40" height I uncouple my Kadees using popsickle sticks sanded to a blade on their ends. Cheap, easy and no worry if someone walks off with one in their pocket. One friend that had a ground level RR used long dowels with a flattened blade on the end so he didn't have to stoop over to uncouple. He used Tenmille ground throws for the switches.
